100 Year Sessions

Directed by Bill Kirstein

Cinematography by Bill Kirstein

Developed with director Bill Kirstein and NY Times jazz critic Giovanni Russonello, this is the first episode of a potential series bringing jazz artists together to improvise in intimate venues, unique to their combined sound. The first episode featured bass clarinetist, Lea Bertucci and cellist, Tomeka Reid in the acoustic hall of mirrors, the Widow Jane Mine. The artists explore the space before composing a piece from scratch in its dank depths. The live performance was lit via mirror boards bouncing sunlight from outside the cave and a few supplementary LED tubes on stage. We also recorded a high quality version of the performance for release on digital platforms.
